Acupuncture and Chinese Dietary Therapy
Acupuncture is part of the traditional medicine of China which includes Herbs, Dietary Therapy, Massage and Exercise. It is probably the most ancient system of healing in the world and has been continuously refined during its 3000 year history.
Chinese Medicine has its own understanding of physiology (how we function), pathology (how we become ill and diseased) and aetiology (what can make us unwell).
Based on a person's symptoms, general characteristics and lifestyle, a diagnosis is reached and an individual treatment plan is developed.
The plan may well include a combination of Acupuncture, Qi Gong lifestyle and Dietary Therapy.
Acupuncture
Traditional Acupuncture is based on the principle that our health is governed by the body's motivating energy, known as Qi. It keeps the blood circulating, warms the body, fights disease, controls organ function and keeps our spirit, mind and emotions balanced and in harmony. Qi flows throughout the body in channels beneath the skin, known as meridians. Acupuncture points are at very precise anatomical locations along these meridians where Qi can be contacted.
In traditional medicine, many things are considered to upset the balance and disturb the flow of Qi, thus causing ill-health, or disharmony. These include stress, anxiety, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, the weather, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. Treatment is therefore focused oon harmonising the flow of Qi to create balance and health.
Scientific studies have shown that acupuncture stimulates the secretion of chemicals in the body such as endorphins, neurotransmitters, hormones and lymphokines. The opatient, therefore, is enabled to tap into his/her own internal pharmacy to promote healing.

What we eat is incredibly important to our health and even more important if we have already become ill.
A set of dietary guidelines, to suit the individual, is developed to assist in both the healing process and the maintenance of well-being.
